  1. Well, for those who don't know. Modern day corruption payoffs work like this. The payee co-signs the payors loan at a foreign bank ie… Deutsche bank. The payee than pays the loan in full. Alahkzsam laundered money done by banks, which happens all the time. After Slick willy eliminated the law preventing this type of banking transaction in America.

  2. This is great, and fairly decisive, AND it doesn't even hit the largest injustices of the Electoral College. If you are a US citizen from any territory that is not a state like Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the Virgin Islands, etc., then your vote for President counts for exactly nothing unless you move to some other state and register to vote there. That means, for example, that 3 million Puerto Rican American citizens have essentially never gotten to vote for their own President. That's more than 5 times the population of Wyoming, in just one territory. Now, you might say, "well, but Puerto Rico and whatnot are special" somehow. Let's for the moment put aside the ridiculousness of that statement and just roll with it. What then of the Nebraskans and Arizonans and Hoosiers who move to Puerto Rico or Guam for work or other reasons, and register their address there? Because of where they happen to live, their votes mean exactly nothing, but if they lived ABROAD, or if, depending on state laws, they were able to register to vote in their hometown instead of in the American city where they actually live their lives, their vote would still count. The Electoral College is a perverse absurdity.

  3. Finally becomes what he is: a standup comedian. To say something is unconstitutional were it not in the Constitution is riduculous.

  4. I'll support abolishing the electoral college only if they first repeal Seventeenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution

  5. Great vid! Great points by Chris Hayes! The EC has got to go! We also need to get delegates out of the primary process. As that is just another system of control.

  6. Chris Hayes, we need to keep the electoral college system because the Founding Fathers purposely wanted that to safe guard our Constitutional Republic, from self destruction, as a result of an ill informed, and apathetic, and willfully ignorant, American people! Suppose we have a hypothetical example where Vladimir Putin secretly orchestrates his cyber hackers to saturate our voting system with misinformation and disinformation. In addition, he succeeds in having cyber-terrorists install harmful software that programs machines to wrongly count voting ballots! The DNC nominee, Joe Biden, is running against President Trump. On election night 2020, as returns are coming in, strange things are happening in Oregon, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida. It's a very tight contest, but many in the DNC are scratching their heads because their internal polling data showed that VP Biden should be winning this contest very handily, and coast to a 376 – 162 electoral college map victory. Instead, the incumbent won by a razor thin, 272 – 266 margin. There is commotion and controversy surrounding several counties in Oregon, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Florida. This is where the Electoral College Reps can be very instrumental and important in correcting a very bad situation! Cheating and tampering… have adversely affected our election process due to harmful foreign influence! We need to keep the Electoral College System!

  7. It is simple. Have a Dem propose a Constitutional Amendment. Get the 3/4 votes needed in the house. Then get the 3/4 or 75 Senators s to vote for it. Then send it to the States for the 3/4 of the States needed. If you can do that then you can end the EC

  8. Example why the Government hurts our education system so as NOT TO TEACH AND EXPLAIN THIS IN SCHOOL!!!!! THE HORRIBLE GOPS KNOW THIS AND JUST WANT TO KEEP THEIR MINORITY IN POWER WHILE THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY GETS PUSHED DOWN, THIS IS A PERVERSION OUR OUR DEMOCRACY!!!!!

  9. You're very good at explaining why it's a flawed system. But then I wonder, hasn't there been a time where the Democrats actually had a big enough majority to change away from the college? And if so, why hasn't it been changed long ago?

  10. The Electoral System makes some Americans more equal than other Americans. In the 2016 Presidential polls, 70,000 American voters were more equal than 3,000,000 American voters, and thus elected the President the US is now infected with.

  11. Strangely, the "Democratic" Party is also opposed to democracy. Ask them about super-delegates. (I am a Democrat. A Bernie Democrat. An AOC Democrat. Not a Hillary Democrat.)

  12. this is so full of crap. Hey Chris, if the right to bare arms wasn't in the constitution, it would be unconstitutional. oh wait, if freedom of speech was in the constitution, it would be unconstitutional. oh and if not have to incriminate yourself wasn't in the constitution, it would be unconstitutional. People dont let the left fool you. This crap about the electoral college is racist is nothing but a scare tactic the left has been using since the 60's.

  13. Ha ha ha ha ha you people are idiots–Trump will win 2020 in a landslide. Sounds like Chris needs to take High School civics class again. Orange man Bad!!, Russia!!, Emoluments!!!, RacistS!!!25th amendment!!!!–is that al ya got? If you want to get rid of the Electoral College, or the 2nd Amendment you simply need to have enough support to Amend the Constitution. Lolz better get cracking losers

  14. Simple solution, get rid of the Senate and the Presidency. We do not need either one. Plenty of job slots have been permanently vacated, it is past time for the lot of them. Send them to file 13, along with the electoral college.

  15. Democrats do not support voters' ID, supports open borders and unless these issues are not corrected the electoral college is a must!

  16. “If it wasn’t [sic] in the Constitution specifically for the presidency, it would be unconstitutional.” at about 3 minute mark lol you guys are deep thinkers

  17. One, very major, point was missed by Mr. Hayes. The Constitution recognized the rights of two, key, constituents. Individuals and States. The Electoral College is the confluence of the rights of these two. The votes of each state determine the Electoral Vote of each state. Oh, and another fact. The 2004 election was not lost by Bush in the individual vote. He won by about 3 million votes.

  18. If the First Amendment wasn't in the Constitution, free speech would also be unconstitutional. You remind me of preacher. Your audience might as well have had their palms raised screaming, AMEN!

  19. My goodness there are are so many that are clueless about the US and our Constitution. One man one vote would lead to more tyranny, not less. The Founders were some of the greatest political minds in history.

“The tyranny of the majority (or tyranny of the masses) is an inherent weakness of majority rule in which the majority of an electorate can and does place its own interests above, and at the expense of those in the minority. This results in oppression of minority groups comparable to that of a tyrant or despot, argued John Stuart Mill in his 1859 book On Liberty. American founding father Alexander Hamilton, writing to Thomas Jefferson from the Constitutional Convention, argued the same fears regarding the use of pure direct democracy by the majority to elect a demagogue who, rather than work for the benefit of all citizens, set out to either harm those in the minority or work only for those of the upper echelon or population centers. As articulated by Hamilton, one reason the Electoral College was created was so "that the office of President will never fall to the lot of any man who is not in an eminent degree endowed with the requisite qualifications.”

  20. Chris Hayes is a very stupid person, but MY GOD! Reading through the comments the people who listens to him are x3 stupid

  21. Demographic trends favour the Democrats in the southwest and soon Texas and Arizona will join the fray. Republican Party has no future after the baby boomers die out

  22. It really amazes us Canadians to see how Americans seem to cling to their old useless traditions just to cling to old traditions. Hasn't evolution taught us anything? It's time to join the 20th century Americans and use RATIONAL THINKING. Assault riffles in the hands of regular people is a stupid and dangerous idea. The majority of Americans agree with this. Why do you let the minority rule on this? Because it's in the constitution? Really? The whole western world is progressive and is evolving beautifully but you guys are stuck in the 50's. For what? C'mon please. It's the same with this arcane EC system. It's so outdated please do something about it. That's how you avoid another demagogue like Trump. The world needs you back. Please

  23. So pretty much, this guy is carrying water for the Democratic party.. How is this journalism?? He is clearly pushing back against one party

  24. We cant continue to elect presidents that loose the popular vote! Its just not right and they know it! But does anyone ever see them changing it? They will never let go of this power! Not until the people stand up to them and make them!

  25. I gotta admit I'm surprised…he's a very good "live host"
If it actually went to one person one vote…republicans would disappear overnight…lol

  26. Chris Hayes , why are you a minion 98% of the time. You do a good job communicating ,, then you collect your millions and play corporate media . Phil Donahue , and Ed Shcultz , join the truth Chris .

  27. I read the platforms in the last presidential election. I voted green cuz its platform is closest (tho not identical) to my views. The county I live in went Blue, cuz I live in Dallas and Clinton got most major metropolitan cities, as the map in this video shows. However, my state went red, cuz TEXAS is mostly rural with only a half dozen major metropolitan cities scattered across it like stars in the early night sky. My vote may have been counted, but it didn't matter. Over half the country doesn't vote, and I may join them, cuz it's dumb to vote. When you do the math, our voices have been squelched out of the debate. It's why our country is either going socialist or fascist, cuz the people in charge are sick and tired of listening to the American people. WE THE PEOPLE don't know what they want, so they want to decide for us. I'd rather we just dissolve the USA entirely than let it fall into the hands of dictators and tyrants. However, united we stand divided we fall. If we break down into fifty states and stop being united, then it's gonna be worse than one dictator. It'll be whoever has the most guns gets to take over the capitol seat. and I think those extremists among the NRA are looking forward to that day. They'd rather be big fish in a small pond, then squelched out voices in a great nation. And I honestly don't know if they're wrong or right about that, but all I see in our future is way more bloodshed if we don't fix this yesterday.

  28. I really like this format for Chris Hayes. This is a nice change from the usual MSNBC programming. Keep this up. Chris is really good at this.

  29. What is hilarious is, there's a "conservative" YouTuber (Anthony Brian Logan) whose commenters are using the same "arguments" Chris points out here; "The USA is not a Democracy, the USA is a Republic."; "Liberals just want the country to run by coastal elites".

  30. What is hilarious is, there's a "conservative" YouTuber (Anthony Brian Logan) whose commenters are using the same "arguments" Chris points out here; "The USA is not a Democracy, the USA is a Republic."; "Liberals just want the country to run by coastal elites".

  31. This periodic intervention by the electoral college proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the US is not a beacon for anything called freedom or democracy; but still they feel they have this inalienable right to dictate the policies of other countries; and in extreme cases, impose their brand of freedom and democracy on them.

  32. This exact same argument made against Republicans for wanting to keep the electoral college can be turned right around at Democrats. Of course you would want majority vote, because the coastal cities would be able to dictate the entire country

  33. and then he missed the open goal… WHY DIDN'T HE SHOW A MORE ACCURATE REPRESENTATION OF VOTES CAST ON A MAP? A map that represents each area not by geographical landmass but by an accurate infographic? I am amazed at by the unimaginative and poor standard of graphics used on American TV stations to communicate political polling info- MSNBC, CNN & FOX are dreadful- especially when compared to UK channels such as the BBC & SKY.

  34. Straight democracy is a racial headcount and you know it. This video proves it. That's your primary argument. You do know that you're validating white nationalist points, right?

This country is not a democracy and was never intended to be one. Exactly because of this.

  35. AFL/CIO support goes to Trump for his stance on China.
Dems cant count on Unions or illegals voting twice.
There is the Wallaway movement, as well.

  36. This is a completely pointless discussion: no practical route exists to altering the constitution at the moment and hasn't in a long while now.

  37. I'm in total agreement with the concept that the majority of votes win, but these multi- parties, special interests, broad country campaigns.
Money has become a major factor on who and what gets heard.

Yes, we have a system of checks and balances, but it seems that the system can become unbalanced left unchecked. What work on yesterday's viruses may not have an effect today's. What we tend to forget that America was and still is an experiment.
And with an experimental approach ,we sometimes have to go back to the drawing board. HINDSIGHT 2020

  38. America is not a full Democracy, Hayes would have you think otherwise. The electoral is there to protect the rural areas and areas of lower populations.

  39. He’s absolutely right . In this day and age where the masses are educated, give them the right to choose. Any nation is comprised of its people and not the land it’s on.

  40. Instead of the NPV initiative, the contracting states should agree to allow each district elect an elector. This is how electors are elected in Maine and Nebraska. More states, including some Republican and swing states, would be willing to accept the change. It wouldn't combat gerrymandering, but it would give each vote more chances of being the "tipping" vote.

  41. Around the 10-minute mark it was strictly brilliant. What you said is totally true and soon enough it's going to finally breakthrough.

  42. One man one vote, no one is above the law, America is run for the benefit of all Americans. Can anyone think of other lies we've believed all our lives?

  43. Republicans hardly make a pretense at trying to get a majority of Americans to vote for them. They openly rely on gerrymandering and the Electoral College to get their people elected.
The Republicans don't even pretend to be for democracy anymore. Not really.

  44. Funny, that even with gerrymandering, the Republicans could not hold onto the House.
I think that soon they won't be able to hold onto the Senate, even though the small states tend to be red states.
And, then, even with the Electoral College, they won't get the presidency. When they lose all 3 branches, which might be in 2020 or 2024, they will lose the ability to stop needed reforms in …
Healthcare, gun control, banking regulation, anti-monopoly regulation of Big Pharma-Big Tech-Big Oil.
The EPA will be re-built. The National Parks refurbished. Our air & water cleaned.
The rich will pay their fair share of the taxes so
we can put our government back in the black, and pay down our national debt.
(Like we started with Bill Clinton, but Bush and the Republicans raided the treasury.)

  45. I have been saying thing for ages and I simply don’t get why people don’t understand the one vote, one value.
Your explanation was clear and concise and surely the opposers to doing away with the electoral college must now understand.

  46. This is why we from the wee 3rd world "southern gate keeper" of asia, gaves the boot to our parliament and opted for direct votes. We dodges bullet several times because of that. While in parliementary time, it gaved us 32 years under a smiling cold blooded killer dictator. Sometimes, better for representatives knows their place.

  47. The Electoral College is part of the Constitution. It can be removed with an amendment. But we have to remember that electing the US President has NEVER been by popular vote. Chris Hayes completely side steps the reasons this was done.

  48. 'Run the presidential election the way we run every other election.' We do. In every election, you vote in your state. The states elect the president… of the United STATES. This isn't hard. The whole point is you run your state how you like, and I'll run mine. Top down nationalized everything is a recipe for conflict, not peace.

The 49% isn't trying to boss you, dude. The 49% wants to be left alone, as they have the right to be.

  49. Republicans are bunch of desperate power hungry animals, they will never accept anything fare and balanced as practiced in most advanced democratic countries. As long as NRA remains a viable force in the USA, America will remain a screwed up democracy to benefit republicans, these elements are worse than ISIS.

  50. Didn't he just prove why democrats want the EC abolished while proving why the republicans want to keep it? Democrats understand that if the EC is gone, they'll win most presidential elections. The electoral college is the fairest way. If it was gone then big cities would decide whose in office every time. You know, those cities where it's okay that the homeless shoot up drugs and defecate in public.

  51. The electoral college for all it's missed steps, is the perfect counter balance to mob rule without denying the possibilty of popular rule across this entire country. Wether any of you like it. it is about keeping densly populated areas within this country , from ruling over sparsely populated areas in our country, our founders were wise men. The power of the veto is the of voice minority , coming from it's elected president against the popularly elected congress. I do love the to dumb to vote rhetoric, verse how to inform the whole citizen body across your admittedly rural country, not mention large. If more people knew how this system worked in it's early history, they would know that's a lie for narritive sake.

  52. With this system in place, it's a bleek outlook for the republicans thanks to a changing demographic. Their numbers shrink by the year and they are terrified of becoming irrelevant. Until democrats vastly outnumber the republicans and can stop the gerrymandering that enables this type of voting on the local level, nothing will change on the national level

  53. Your fundamental problem isn't the electoral college alone, it's the whole electoral system. The whole problem could be solved by replacing the FPTP/winner take all system with another electoral system like the List PR. But, of course, there is no will to do this, because it would break the 2 party monopoly on power in the US, it would force coalitions instead of having one party do whatever it wants for a time, so the parties would have to cooperate instead of argue and it would make gerrymandering redundant, because however you divide constituencies, minority votes still weigh something. As far as Congressional elections are concerned or elections for any body of representatives, every time you have a vote, you have a winner (say 51% of votes), but the other 49% are told they don't matter at all. It's like they don't even exist. That, I think, is the bigger problem!
