We choose the flowers here in the pavilion
because of their size, color and the way that they are a perfect shape for the butterfly
to insert the proboscis and drink their nectar. Smithsonian Gardens brings us different plants
every week for the butterflies because we have to keep nectaring plants at all times
here in the pavilion. The pavilion’s title is Butterflies + Plants:
Partners in Evolution. It’s a visual display, a living display
to show the public how plants, butterflies, pollinators interact with one another.
