Upstate district breakdowns cellphone policy at schools

>>IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYONE THESE
DAYS HAS ONE OF THESE, CELL
PHONE, BUT THEY CAN ACT AS A
DISTRACTION FOR STUDENTS, WHICH
IS WHY ONE ANDERSON SCHOOL
DISTRICT IS CRACKING DOWN ON CELL PHONE USAGE THIS UPCOMING
SCHOOL YEAR. ALL 5 OF THE ANDERSON COUNTY
SCHOOL DISTRICT’S HAVE SOME FORM
OF CELL PHONE POLICY IN PLACE. A RESTRICTION DISTRICT 3
SUPERINTENDENT KATHY HIPP
BELIEVES IS NECESSARY FOR
FOCUSED LEARNING.>>IF THOSE GO OFF, AND THEY GET
A TEXT OR WHATEVER IT REALLY
TAKES AWAY FROM THE LEARNING
ENVIRONMENT. WHEN THEY’RE IN THE CLASSROOM WE
WANT THE TOTAL FOCUS ON THE
LEARNING AT HAND, THE PROJECT AT
HAND ETC.>>SCHOOL DISTRICT 3’S POLICY
CURRENTLY SAYS THAT STUDENT’S
ARE ALLOWED CELL PHONES IN
SCHOOL BUT ONLY WHEN USED FOR
TEACHER INSTRUCTIO
>>WHE WE REVISE OUR POLICY IN 2004, IT DID ALLOW THEM TO HAVE
IT ON THEIR PERSON, WE JUST
ADDED THAT IT HAD TO STAY OUT OF
SIGHT OUT OF MIND.>>AND IN AN EFFORT TO CRACK
DOWN ON CELL PHONE USAGE IN
SCHOOL ANDERSON SCHOOL DISTRICT
5 IS INTRODUCING A NEW CELL
PHONE POLICY THIS YEAR. EFFECTIVELY BANNING STUDENT CELL
PHONES IN ALL ELEMENTARY
SCHOOLS. THIS IN ADDITION TO THE STANDING
POLICY PROHIBITING CELL PHONES
FROM BEING SEEN OR HEARD DURING
THE SCHOOL DAY IN MIDDLE SCHOOL
AND ONLY ALLOWING CELL PHONES TO
BE USED DURING LUNCH IN HIGH SCHOOL. IF THE RESTRICTION IS VIOLATED
THE PHONE WILL BE CONFISCATE
AND A PARENT WILL HAVE TO CO
AND RETRIEVE THE PHONE FROM THE
SCHOOL. THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IS THIS
COMING DISTRICT 5 ADMINISTRATORS
